Downpours persist as China enters "plum rain" season

Downpours will continue to lash parts of China before next Monday as the annual "plum rain" season arrives, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said on Friday.

An orange alert for rainstorms was renewed and a red alert for mountain floods was issued on Friday, and the public has been urged to take necessary precautions.

China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

According to the orange alert for rainstorms, from 8:00 p.m. Friday to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, heavy rains and rainstorms will hit parts of Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Guangxi and Yunnan. Certain areas will experience torrential rains, with rainfall of 250 to 350 millimeters expected.

According to the red alert for mountain floods, from 8:00 p.m. Friday to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, some regions face a significant threat of mountain flood disasters, including parts of Anhui, Henan, Hubei, Guangxi and Yunnan.

Heavy rainfall in regions such as Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangsu and Anhui will persist until next Monday, with the most intense precipitation expected between Friday and Saturday, according to the CMA.
